Data monetization and new business ventures in agribusiness


A leading agribusiness company held an extremely valuable yet underutilized asset: the data generated across its silos and warehouses. The company sought to transform this data into a new growth avenue but lacked a clear thesis on how to monetize it — and needed a partner not only to design the strategy, but to execute it.
We acted as a Venture Building partner, immersing ourselves in the business to identify five major opportunity territories. From there, we designed a comprehensive investment thesis: creating a new business focused on Agro Digital, which would unify the production chain — from farming to distribution — through data integration. The execution plan involved strategic moves to accelerate business building, including the acquisition of a digital-native startup with IoT technology capable of collecting data directly from the farm.
The jointly designed and executed strategy culminated in a strategic M&A valued at BRL 70 million, with the acquisition of the mapped startup. This move not only internalized the technology essential to the thesis, but positioned the company as a consolidator in the AgTech ecosystem. The new business opened doors to innovative services — such as supporting producers in their relationships with creditors — and established a new and profitable business model for the company.
